Prepared
Okay, I admit it. I really do carry a Tide-to-Go in my purse. For a year and a half I’ve been prepared. In that time, I’ve used it twice. Before church a Starbucks hot chocolate dribbled down Graham’s shirt and while out to dinner John wore some of his pasta sauce. Just knowing that I have the tool to fix the problem is reassuring.
Today I’m trying to prepare for my weekend — because, sister…I’m leaving town! John will have all four kids while I’m on a get-away with my mom, sister and sister-in-laws. Payback is a beautiful thing. But before I can drink my first margarita, I have to prepare. Daily schedules are typed, this afternoon I’m making dinners, each of Merritt’s meals needs to be individually packaged, and I have three loads of laundry yet to fold. Preparing is work.
But when “all my ducks are in a row” (favorite saying of Marybeth) I have a greater sense of calm and can enjoy the moment. John is a very capable father, but I’ll worry a whole lot less if I know he is prepared for his weekend. I’m not sure why the Boy Scouts get all the credit for being prepared. It seems to me it is probably the moms who wash the uniforms and air out the sleeping bags. So although being prepared by carrying band aids in the car or stain remover in your purse are nerdy mom things, I think I’m way more equipped than the Boy Scouts. Plus I’m not sleeping in a tent this weekend!

Have you ever seen the movie Hoodwinked? In the movie there is this silly, singing goat that
sings this great song about always being prepared. The song has become a mantra in our house.
You should get the DVD just to see the “prepared singing goat! “:)
Have a fun weekend…..Oh and BTW, I carry a pocket knife and a small flashlight in my purse…..
just in case.

I’ll have to rent it…sounds like just the type of thing I’d find humorous! Kathy

I saw that movie, it was funny. I have not tried those Tide-to-go’s yet but I’ve been wanting to. It sounds like they work ok.
Purse-wise I don’t carry anything to be prepared with although I should start carrying bandaids for my kids. But I do stay well stocked in my vans floor storage compartment. Extra outfits and diapers for all the girls, umbrella, water bottles, napkins, just to name a few items.

Kathy, have a wonderful time with your mom and sisters! This will be the Lessons from the Laundry version of Ya-Ya, right?
I, too, am an over-preparer. I always take absolutely everything I could ever need, everywhere! Most important, however, is the cork screw in my writing bag. You never know when a sister writer will have great news of acceptance and need to pop open a bottle of something good!

I’ve never used that Tide On-the-Go but I guess I should give it a try! Thanks for the recommendation!
