Oh, I am soooo guilty of having the "We'll sit and relax just as soon as we do such-n-such" approach to summer break. I have two clean bathrooms this morning as a result. muah ha ha ha
But I'm sure there is a happy medium.... at least my kids hope so.
I am trying to incorporate fun (educational?) things for them to do... we went to see a glass blower the other day, which was a blast.
I bought them paint-by-number kits from Michael's Arts and Crafts store and a couple of other artsy type things to work on at their "leisure" (a.k.a when they turn off the tv). I have to build in reading time each day - not only for my sanity (I have 5 kids, two are in diapers) but also because I don't want to wait until the last minute to finish that "summer reading project" for school.
All that said, I will try to remember to do like you, Kathy, and embrace summer and her relaxed pace. :o) mg

I KEENLY remember my mom tgrying to structure our summer breaks. Each school year ended with her tenacious attempts at reading lists, math work, and daily chores. That lasted about a week. I am sure that your goals will alst longer though... I hope I didn't just totally take the wind out of your sails!

Love the BLOG.. thanks for stopping by mine!

Oooh, this post made me even more excited about summer! I'm actually one of those very laid-back by nature people, so summer just gives me even more of a reason to put things off in order to enjoy her pleasures!!

So my kids are the only ones who don't think any education should happen for three months? I'm going to sneak something in somehow, some way. I know what you mean about no being able to control summer. The days just get away from me. I just love the way you describe how summer can't be business casual...I always feel bad when I see men and women dressed for work on a 90 degree day. The mom dress code works for me and summer.

I am so with you on the increased messes. Thanks for reminding me what summer is all about. I'm trying to keep it mellow.
